The picture above shows what happens when we try to take pictures outside near flowers and a bug flies into my hair. Nothing about the pictures have anything to do with the rest of this post. Except for Sean's reaction to the bug flying into my hair.
It's no secret that Sean is a bit more relaxed than me. He's less intense, more laid-back, less critical, more easygoing. We're different. We react to things differently. We like different things. We have different hobbies. While one of my hobbies is to watch Lifetime Movie Network for days on end, one of his hobbies is to cook. I have no complaints about this. We have a good thing going here… I clean and do laundry, he goes food shopping and cooks.
I'm not a fan of food. Don't get me wrong, I eat. I eat a lot and when I don't eat I'm no fun to be around. But I don't really "enjoy" food. It just doesn't do anything for me. I think of food as a necessity. Sean thinks of food as an art. He loves it. He loves trying new things and tasting different foods and being daring and experimenting with recipes and techniques. Unfortunately for me, this means that occasionally I'm asked to step outside my mac-and-cheese-for-dinner-comfort-zone and try something new. Luckily for me, this means I get dinner every night. Made for me. When I get home. I know. It's amazing.
For the past two weeks, Sean has been cooking using "hobo packs". They are pretty straight-forward and pretty sweet. Basically, it amounts to getting tinfoil for each person in your household adding a meat, a starch and some veggies along with whatever spices you want -- closing up the tinfoil and throwing the whole thing on the grill for about 40 minutes. Without ever having to turn or check on it. After 40 minutes, you take it off the grill and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, which is the best part, you open up your packet and eat right from the pack. This is particularly amazing for me because since our agreement is that I'm the "cleaner" eating directly from these hobo-packs eliminates most dishes. Another benefit of hobo-packs is that since I'm a picky eater and tend to stick to chicken, rice and carrots -- and Sean is a bit more bold with his appetite -- we can each customize our own packs. We stick to portion sizes, don't have to deal with a million dishes in order for each of us to eat what we want, and everything is ready at the exact same time. Plus, it helps me break away from my favorite staple -- pasta.
