Weekend in Maine.

Last weekend we went to Maine with Sean's parents. The ride takes 3.5 hours and since we went after work on Friday we didn't get there until 9:30. We woke up in time to drive to the lighthouse and watch the sunrise. I, clearly, wasn't thinking straight at 6:15 AM when we were leaving the house and I forgot my scarf, gloves, hat, extra layers -- and it was so cold. Apparently, Sean was still under the impression it was warm outside since he wore shorts. While we were standing on the rocks watching the sunrise, the moon was still out behind us. This is also the location Sean proposed to me -- so it's sort of special all around. Later in the day we drove south to Portland, Maine to shop, have lunch and visit the Shipyard brewery. On Sunday, we had a relaxing day and walked around the small town where the house is and saw "pumpkin fest". They close the house up for the winter and I can't wait to go back in the warm weather.

Back from the west coast.

We waited & waited for this trip forever. We researched & planned and spent a year saving up money so that we could do everything we wanted to do on the west coast. And now that it's over, it's a little sad.

Twelve days on vacation is a very long time. It makes it hard to come home to normal every day life (even when your current every day life means waking up late and hanging out all day). Vacation life is just so much more fun. I will admit I was missing our home, our bed and our cats.

Our time included family, ferry rides, long drives, late nights, early mornings, the beach, great food, beer tastings, an 80s cover band concert, the zoo, the aquarium, city tours, a child's first birthday party, the Redwood forest, and twelve full days together. :)

I plan to recap the trip in the next few days. Right now -- both the DVR and unpacking are calling my name.

Summer trip: Puerto Rico.

If you follow on Instagram or Twitter you may have noticed a sudden influx of photos at the beach and/or with images of palm trees in the background. Since we live in Massachusetts, clearly, those photos were not taken outside our house. We spent the weekend with my family in Puerto Rico. It was so much fun.

We left Friday morning, and spent the night and the next 2.5 days in Rincon, Puerto Rico. I highly recommend this area for a few days of relaxation as it's known for its beaches and its surf-able waves. We spent all our time in the sand, on the balcony and at restaurants -- eating way too much food. It was a perfect getaway.

The house was right on the beach, and the ocean was that blue. We stayed on the third floor and spent some time up on the rooftop watching the sunset (Rincon is also known for amazing sunsets). At night, it was a little cloudy in the distance, but we enjoyed every minute of it.

During the day, Sean tried paddle boarding & I tried to use a boogie board for the first time. His experience was more successful (and positive) than mine. I was sure I would be sucked out to sea by the huge waves. Oh, you don't see the huge waves? Well, apparently I overreacted when I claimed he was trying to kill me. Oh, there were tears and a slight panic attack. I really do have to work on that.

For the record, there were small children in the water; boogie boarding. It's just not for me, alright? I hate the water. And yes, he's laughing at me. Moving on...

On the last day, we took a ride to the middle of the island and my dad showed us where he grew up. It was really interesting to imagine how different it would have been. It was so cool to see it all. I also visited with my great-grandmother :)

It was a great trip and we're already talking about when we'd like to go back. Hint: very soon.

Maine.

My iPhone software update currently says it'll take 6 hours to finish.

While I wait I'll tell you about our trip to Maine last month.

We took Apollo because my heart broke at the thought of leaving her behind.

She loved the ride. She was a very good backseat driver and after about 5 minutes of keeping watch, she curled up and fell asleep for the rest of the ride.

It took hours... I think 4 to be exact.

The trip was filled with nature, outdoor games, indoor board games, cooking, drinking, eating, shopping, walking, beading, talking, laughing, and the coastline.

We also took a boat ride around the lighthouse where we got engaged. :)

It was a beautiful weekend other than a little rain on Saturday.
It also marked my last weekend of summer break before I went back to work.

I'd love a weekend away now :)

Meanwhile my iPhone update still says 6 hours.
Hmm.

Baby Easton's Shower

On June 30th, we celebrated baby Easton (and Chelsey!) and we definitely showered him with love. No one can wait for his arrival and we had a blast spending this day chatting, and anticipating, and wondering about the little guy!

His due date is August 19th. Although, my bet is placed on August 14th.
It just spoke to me. I've alerted Siri and an alarm will go off on my phone on the 14th.

We'll see if I'm right :)

6.20.2012

Our one year anniversary.

I can't even believe it... but it's true.

A year has [almost] passed since we said "I do".

It crept up... literally...

And now we're trying to decide what to do & where to go to celebrate!

Which brings us to a bump in the road.

My idea of vacation is:

via.

City Life.
Busy days.
Lots of restaurants.
Hotels.

His idea of a vacation is:

via.

Nature.
Peace & quiet.
Campfires.
Sleeping outside.

See the dilemma?

So, I've been looking and I think I've found two situations that are:
compromises.

That's what the first year of marriage is about... after all, isn't it?

via.

Niagara Falls.
the Canadian side.
We'd stay in a hotel,
but we'd do nature-y things.

or....

via

Camping in cabins.
showers inside,
road trips during the day,
campfires at night.

We're still in the deciding phase.
Which apparently can't last too long cause the days are counting down....

Any tips??
